Wet Kinderombudsman aangenomen

The International Convention on the Rights of the Child, consisting of 54 articles, has at least three functions:

  • legal instrument (to be used by solicitors and magistrates in proceedings);
  • the ideological basis for youth policy (at municipal, provincial and national level);
  • an educational task and challenge for everyone who works with children and young people.
  • The International Convention on the Rights of the Child

    The International Convention on the Rights of the Child stipulates that human rights also apply to children, that young people are also fellow citizens, that minors are not legal objects but persons having legal rights, that in our complex society children should grow up in an atmosphere of solidarity, participation and responsibility. Children are not small adults, but citizens in the making. Children are vulnerable but also strong. Child rights reflect an optimistic view of youth, without disregarding the problems that children have. Today’s society always seems to emphasise the difficulties. The Child Rights Home propagates solutions and opportunities, rather than problems and threats.
